My Command Center

Today I was in a particularly disorganized and unmotivated mood.  I slept in and then lounged on the couch eating Cheerios while watching the latest episode of The Bachelorette.  (How dysfunctional can people get on that show?!?)  In an effort to roust myself out of the doldrums I turned to retail therapy.  Whaddya know...it worked!!!  heehee

I've been wanting to make a "command center" ever since my mom blogged about the wonders of having one.  So I went to Wal-Mart and found the right materials.  While watching a chick flick I got it all set up and here's the finished product.  I already love it!  Hopefully it will help cure me of some of my forgetful tendencies.  haha

Cupcake Party

When I first started teaching the 5 year olds in October of 2012 I took on a very rambunctious bunch of kids.  They were notorious for less than stellar behavior.  So the first few weeks were spent establishing guidelines and routine and they started to improve.  However they always complained that I never brought treats to class.  So I worked out a reward system.  I made reverence charts and every day that they were well behaved then I would put a sticker on the chart.  When the chart was full of stickers then we would have a cupcake party where I would make their favorite cupcakes and deliver them to their houses. 

On Sunday my kids finally made it!  They are now the most well behaved kids in Primary and get compliments on how good they are.  The other day, some of the younger kids were really out of control and my kids looked at me and said "Sister Jacobsen, they are not being very reverent!".  It was nice to see that they are now focusing easily on being reverent.

Today I made six different kinds of cupcakes and assembled six little care packages with certificates for being Star Students.  I cannot wait to deliver them!  I'm so proud of my 6 year olds!

A Man and His Truck

One of my favorite things is to see Reed with his truck.  His truck fits his personality so well and they do great work together.  Just a few weeks ago we helped our friend Andrew move up to Olympia (Yay!) and Reed borrowed a trailer to help with the move.  We made quick work of the move and I could tell that Reed really liked being out and about with Samson.  You should see Reed backing up the truck/trailer combo....he makes it look easy!  Of course, when I try to back up my Honda Civic it's a near disaster every time and it makes the sweat bead on my forehead.  But Reed is cool as a cucumber and has amazing skills at handling big equipment.  One day we will add a trailer to our collection but that won't happen until we have the space and a more reputable neighborhood.  :-) 

This picture makes me laugh because it shows how a real man parks his truck...without regard to sissy lines.  haha

Peanut Butter and Jelly

Yesterday we were hanging out at the Bahrtzoo and enjoying a barbecue.  Lauryn kept stealing Reed's seat next to me and I said "Reed needs to sit next to me because we go together like peanut butter and jelly and you don't want to keep peanut butter and jelly apart, do you?!".  Lauryn thought about it and then leaped out of the chair and ran over to Reed and hugged his legs super tight while exclaiming "Look!  I'm Jelly!"  I can't compete with that. haha
