The Things I'll Do to Get a Tootsie Roll
Today my arm was violated by influenza vaccination. At the hospital, all staff are required to either have a flu shot or wear a mask for the entire flu season. I prefer the flu shot personally. However, I always put it off until the very last minute....it seems to annoy people more that way. ;-) Today was the last minute for our hospital and so I trekked down to our employee health specialist and ate a tootsie roll while she jabbed my muscular arm with a needle. It really wasn't bad so I don't understand what my patients complain about when I do it. Now I'm all vaccinated. The question is....are you?

Medical Humor = True Love
As we were watching one of our TV shows the other day, a commercial came on with big bold letters that advertised a website named Gathr. When Reed saw the website name he, jokingly, said "maybe they mean catheter" and I laughed. I love catheter jokes and I was way impressed that he made such a skilled medical joke! So I put my arm around him and asked "three years ago, did you think you'd be making jokes about catheters?" and he said "nope, I barely even thought about what a catheter was". It made me burst with happiness that he has taken such an interest in my life and work that he is able to communicate with me on a level that not everyone can. He's always looking to learn more about what I do and it makes me feel really special. Now if only I could figure out more about programming....maybe then he'd feel special too! ;-)

I'm A Big Loser...The Biggest Loser
This weekend I ran my first ever half-marathon! The Biggest Loser is a show I really enjoy watching and I support their cause...even though Jillian Michaels is way too masculine while Bob Harper is way too feminine. Anyhoo, the show has a Run/Walk series that travels the country and gives average people the opportunity to do a half marathon in a non-competitive environment.
We went to Seattle the day before and had a great time hanging out with our cousins Andy and Adria. Parking in Seattle was super stressful but we ended up walking to most places. Andy took us to the Cupcake Royale shoppe where we ate delicious fluffy and flavorful cupcakes. I carbo-loaded with spaghetti while the boys ate chicken tacos and we played Goldeneye on the Playstation.
I could hardly sleep that night but when the alarm finally went off I rolled over and asked Reed if we could just go home now. He laughed as if I was joking...I wasn't. haha Reed and I got to Gas Works Park (the official starting/finish line) and froze our buns off until the race started at 8am. We even got to meet Francelina who was one of our favorite contestants of last season. She was super nice!
I started with the 10 minute/mile group and stayed with them for most of the race. We got to run past Fremont neighborhood (home of the troll), over tons of bridges, along Lake Union and the fabulous waterfront there, and then we ran through the UW campus (next to Husky Stadium and the hospital). It was such a pretty run and not too difficult. I ran for most of the first 8.5 miles but then my knees started hurting (old basketball injury) so I decided it wasn't worth it to give myself an orthopedic problem. I walked the last four miles and still made it in under my goal time....I made it in 2 hours and 26 minutes!!!! I definitely almost cried when I saw the finish line. I just couldn't wait for the race to be done so that I could go to the bathroom. hahaha
Food and sweatpants never felt so good. I am excited to register for my next race!

Defective Puzzles
I must be in a blogging mood...this must drive you absolutely nutso. Oh well! :-)
Today I worked on finishing up one of our puzzles. It's a pretty picture of an island in Greece. I like to have Reed put in the last piece so I finished the entire puzzle but set the last piece aside. Then I told him "Reed, I need your help with this puzzle!" and he goes "oh, you mean it's done now" and I was like "all of the pieces are not in place yet...that's why I need your help". He wasn't fooled. haha
Fast forward thirty minutes to his next break and he wanders into our puzzle room. *silence* followed by "Meghan, it doesn't fit! Our puzzle is defective!". I walk into the puzzle room and find this.....
hahaha My husband has the funniest sense of humor! He's quite clearly the reason behind my smile. :-D

Life's Simple Pleasures
Way back when Reed and I were just two good friends hanging out in the singles' branch we had a conversation about life's simple pleasures. Both of us had nice long lists of the things that make us happy for no good reason. Things like the smell of rain, being with family, and the smell of fresh baked bread. Every once in a while I lose track of those simple pleasures and it is quite nice when I'm reminded of some of those things I love.
Today, Mom and I went to the store to run a few errands. We went to the sock section and oh what a sight to see! A wall full of all kinds of colorful, soft, good smelling socks! I purchased two different kinds because they were both so awesome. At home I put one of each kind on my feet and I am now sitting here watching a chick flick movie and enjoy the moisture wicking, extra cushioned heels and arch support of my fabulous new athletic socks. *sigh* New socks are definitely a simple pleasure in life. :-)

General Conference Weekend
This weekend was General Conference!!! Deklan had a great time watching Conference with us. They showed a beautiful shot of the Salt Lake Temple and he goes "That's where Daddy is!!! In Utah!!!!" and we told him that very soon he'd be able to go to the temple grounds with his daddy and he got very very excited. Then when the Mormon Tabernacle Choir was singing Deklan asked "do you think my primary teacher is watching this?" and we said that she was. One of the general authorities emphasized the point that nobody is too young to enjoy conference and that person was absolutely right.
