Reed is Awesome

He's winning the race!
Reed deserves a post that sings his praises.  :-)  A few years back (the year 2009 to be exact) he had an opportunity to participate in a gigantic bicycle race.  The MS Bike Race benefits research on multiple sclerosis and it is also a Jacobsen family tradition.  So Reed decided to do it!

Valley of Fire
He had to ride 167 miles through the scorching Las Vegas desert.  They rode along the freeway and into the Valley of Fire then looped back around to Las Vegas.  Reed and his dad took me on a drive along the route and I've got to admit that it was super grueling!  I'm amazed at what Reed was able to do!  He had very little time to train and only borrowed a bike for the race.  I think it shows his mental strength to be able to push on and endure the rigors of a 167 mile race.  Not everybody finishes that event but Reed did and I'm proud of him and appreciate the qualities he displayed.  Go Reed!!!  :-)

Shipoopi

This is just too funny not to write about.  While hanging out in Las Vegas we went to see a stage production of 'The Music Man'.  I've always liked that play and things are always more awesomer (Larry the Cucumber approves my use of the words 'more' and 'awesomer' together) on stage.  This play was no exception.  However one song that I hadn't really paid any attention to is the one called Shipoopi.  After the play was done we were all discussing that song and wondering what it meant.

Wepoopi
A careful examination of the song lyrics reveals the definition of a Shipoopi as "the girl he's glad he's found" which led me to the only logical conclusion.  I must be Reed's Shipoopi!  And what's even greater about that designation is that the title also contains the word poop in it.   A double whammy of awesomeness!  haha

In the spirit of fairness I think it's also important to note that Reed is the guy I'm glad I found but since he's a man then he can't be a Shipoopi so he'll just have to be a Hepoopi.  And together we are Wepoopi!  hahahaha

Lyrics from the song Shipoopi:
Now a woman who'll kiss on a very 1st date,
Is usually a hussy,
And a woman who'll kiss on the second time out,
Is anything but fussy,
But a woman who'll wait 'till the 3rd time around,
Head in the clouds, feet on the ground,
She's the girl he's glad he's found,
She's his Shipoopi.

Ooh La La

While we were in Oceanside we spent a lot of time with our nieces and nephews on Reed's side.  One of them is Todd.  He's three years old and absolutely adorable.  He's actually the one that gave me the nickname of Daygin.  Anyway, we were skipping rocks on the beach and he thought the point of the game was to make a big splash so he would grab rocks and yell "Meghan Meghan watch me watch me splash!!!" and I would watch and applaud and he'd go back and do it all over again.  While we were sitting around chatting he decided to teach us the correct way to say "ooh la la" (which appears to be his current favorite saying).  He would listen to us say it and then he'd go "No!!!  That's not how you say it!".  Then, really slowly, he would say "Oooh" and wait for us to repeat it.  Then "Ahh" and wait for us. And finally "Wah" and again he'd wait for us.  Then he'd say it fast "Oooh Ahh Wah" and laugh when we'd all do it correct.  He sure is a cutie!

'Lego' My Eggo

Reed's Tower of Awesomeness
Reed and I both love legos.  Before we even started dating I lucked out (also known as carefully planned out) and got the white elephant gift he had brought which turned out to be a lego kit.  We both have a long standing history of playing with legos as children.  Both of our mothers have huge lego collections that we love to play with.  This picture is
one of the towers Reed built....I did not choose to take a picture of the little princess garden party I created later.  It just didn't look quite as cool.  hahaha

I Married Robin Hood

On Sundays we go to visit the Bahrtzoo and have dinner while the laundry is going.  Recently, Deklan and Lauryn got a fun new toy that Reed and I love to play with.  It's a set of very well designed Nerf style bows and arrows that lobs soft, weighted darts approximately 200 feet through the air.  Last Sunday we spent probably an hour outside shooting back and forth at each other.  Yes, our goal was to see how close we could get the darts to shooting the other person and no, we were not angry at each other.  :-) I'm watching for these toys to go on sale...in the meantime we'll just occasionally steal the toys from children.  haha

Zip-It

A while back I fixed our tub drain using Drano.  When I told my co-workers about it they protested that I was killing the environment and suggested all kinds of concoctions using items such as vinegar, baking soda, or the first lost tooth of your firstborn.  I mentioned I should just shave my head bald and then I would never have drain problems!  haha

So last month I graduated and my co-workers were all very excited for me.  One of them, Nurse Williams, said "Meghan, I know just what present to get you".  I protested and said I didn't want her to get me anything but she got a twinkle in her eye and I knew she wouldn't listen.

The other day I looked in my locker and there was a big golden wrapped package with my name on it.  I was befuzzled as to who it was from!  Then Nurse Williams came into the break room and asked if I had opened my present yet.  I opened it with her there and out fell a 'Zip-It'!  It's a device that unplugs your drains without chemicals or teeth of firstborns.  I was super excited and she laughed and gave me a hug.

Today I showed it to Reed and he was like "ooh, I want to try it!".....

With all of our recent plumbing experiences we know that if my career as a nurse fails then at least I can always fall back on plumber-ing.  ;-)
