A Quick Little Newsy Post

Hi friends,

I've been terribly delinquent in my newsy writing but that's kind of what people seem to expect out of blogs so I don't feel too terrible.  ;-)

So, the big huge news of the week is that the surgery center's license FINALLY came through!!!!  The 'Extremely Urgent Overnight Air FedEx' package came while my boss was out and so I called her and opened it with permission.  I screamed, she screamed, we all screamed!  What a long journey this has been and we finally have that piece of paper that says we can actually start having patients!  Oh, it feels so good having watched and helped the surgery center go from a hard-hat zone to patient-ready.  Yippee!!!

In other news, we were at a ward picnic and having a great time chatting with friends when all of a sudden a bird POOPED on the back of my head and down the back of my shirt!!!!  It was so gross!!!!  I thought I was going to barf.  So I hurried over to Reed and hollered that we needed to leave because a bird crapped on me and at first he didn't believe me and then he did.  haha  We hurried home and I used half a bottle of Head and Shoulders on my head and neck in the shower.  I think I took off a layer of skin attempting to get fowl fecal matter off of me.  :-) It was really quite funny! 

Reed has been working very hard, as always, on his work.  He finally got the permit he was waiting for from the government to allow him to take the next steps but in the meantime he has built a really good website for this venture.  I really appreciate the fact that he asks me to check his websites and give critiques.  I like helping with his business but I'm terrible about anything having to do with marketing, programming, etc.  He's a smart guy. 

Anyway, I better get going....we have a busy day planned.  I'll be back to the blog soon.  :-)

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend was the best one that I've ever had.  Ever.  What could possibly make the weekend so great?  The epic reunion of me and some of my sissies!  Kandace and Ken hosted us at their apartment, Rebekah and Tommy traveled down from Rexburg, and Reed and I drove up from Vegas.  This resulted in late nights talking and laughing, movie watching, eating delicious food, and birthday shenanigans.  (Us three little girls have birthdays pretty close to each other)  On Sunday we all converged on Jeanne and Shaun's house and had a fantastic evening just chilling and laughing so hard that our tummies hurt.  Here are a few pictures as proof of the fun.  :-)

My 27th Birthday

I wanted to thank all of my friends and family for wishing me Happy Birthday on the 25th.  My first birthday in a new state was intimidating but I felt the love and appreciated the kind words from everybody. 

To be honest, as my birthday approached, I was a little hesitant in hoping for a super great day.  Birthdays have always been held to certain expectations in my mind and I wondered what my first birthday away from my family would be like.  Here's how it went down:

I spent the morning working and my co-workers were very sweet and wished me happy birthday and asked what Reed and I had planned.  I told them I'd be leaving work early in order for Reed to take me.....ICE SKATING!!!  (I loooooove ice skating)    Then Reed came to my work weirdly early and I was like "I'm working until noon" and he was all like "oh, I can just hang around until it's time to go".  Hmmm, weird.  Then my boss comes in and goes "birthday party time!" and I was super surprised to see a fabulously delicious spread of goodies from Panera Bread and my very own Nothing Bundt Cake!  They presented me with a super cute card that they'd all signed and it really touched my heart to have such kind friends here in Vegas.  It turns out that Reed and my boss had been plotting this out for a while and that's why Reed was there so early. haha  What a sneaky sneak. :-)

After my work party, Reed loaded me and some extra thick socks into the car and we headed to the ice rink which is maybe a mile and a half away from our apartment.  (Now is my chance to become a professional figure skater....distance is not an obstacle anymore.  haha)  We walked in and this dude informed us that the public skate session was closed due to construction.  Bummer-oo!  Reed was super disappointed seeing as that was the big ticket item for the day. 

So we decided to head down to a few of my favorite casinos in order to see the shops and entertainment.  We went to the Venetian first and I loved watching the gondoliers and watching the street performers.  I'm sure Reed would rather have not done the window shopping but he kindly put up with it.  haha  Our favorite photographer has a gallery there and Reed and I both enjoyed wandering through and admiring the awesome photos.   After Venetian, we headed to the Bellagio where we ogled the worlds largest chocolate fountain, watched the birds fly in the gardens, and enjoyed the fountains show. 

We were both pretty tired at that point so we headed to Buffalo Wild Wings where we enjoyed a free meal thanks to our friends at Katastat Pools.  Reed has done some marketing work with them and they thanked us by giving us a yummy dinner.  I'd never been to Buffalo Wild Wings so I ordered a flatbread pizza and an order of wings.  OH MY GOODNESS....everything was sooooo yummy!  I loved how the wings tasted like they'd have that spicy kick but never did.  And their fries are the best ever.  Mmmm!  Reed told our server that it was my birthday so he brought us a gigantic piece of chocolate cake topped with a candle.  Reed sang me Happy Birthday and I made a wish.  To be honest, I can't remember what that wish was now.....but I bet it will come true. 

In the evening I enjoyed a phone call with my mummy and a few of my siblings.  I missed them a lot during my birthday.  I am learning (very slowly) that part of growing up is learning how to bloom where you're planted....fortunately I was planted in the same place as Reed because he makes every day perfect.

So that was my birthday.  It totally exceeded my expectations and now I am 27 and super old.  ;-)
