Snow, Mistletoe, Presents By the Tree

Merry Christmas!  This was our first Christmas as a married couple and it was a really good day.  We were able to sleep in and I woke up a bit before Reed.  I looked out the window and to my amazement discovered that it was SNOWING!!!  We were up to about an inch of snow before it started raining and melting it all away.  :-(   But it was gorgeous and we did get a white Christmas which is something I've been wanting. 

We got up and opened presents.  Some of the highlights were the slippers that Reed got me (pink and orange) as well as the smash journal kit.  Reed really liked the gloves I bought him and is excited to use the electric face shaver.  He asked for a new one because the one he's using currently has been shaving his face for over 10 years now!

Then I tromped around the massive kitchen here at our resort and finally found all the ingredients to make waffles.  Waffles from scratch just don't taste as good as Bisquick waffles do.  *sigh*  But I refused to have Reed eating cold cereal for Christmas breakfast!  How outrageous!  haha

We hurried to meet up with the Bahrt Mom and Dad in order to carry out the long held tradition of watching a movie in the theatre on Christmas.  This year they had chosen Les Miserables.  It was a really good movie and quite well done but I was just not as happy with the voices and that kept it from being a 5 star movie in my mind.  I did, however, sob through most of it and felt completely drippy.  Reed didn't particularly like the movie but he did say that he liked a lot of the storyline (especially ValJean and Javert).

After the movie was done we went back to our resort and chilled out.  Both of us were tired from lack of sleep because the dogs barked all night long.  Then Mom, Dad and Kandace came over with gifts and to receive their gifts from us.  The parentals got us Snuggies!  I am utterly in love with mine....it's so comfortable and perfect!  Why did I not think of this design?!? 

We watched Men In Black 3 after eating our macaroni and cheese Christmas dinner.  It's a good movie and everybody really liked it.  Then the 'rentals left and Kandace sat and chatted while Reed and I played pool. 

It was a really nice day....relaxing and happy.  Merry Christmas everyone!

The New World Order

So, the world ended at midnight last night.  Reed and I are now adjusting to the New World Order.  And it turns out that in this New World I, Meghan Jacobsen, am a pro at playing pool!  You don't believe me do you.  Keep reading.....

It's bedtime at the Jacobsen household.  We had just finished a nice evening watching Star Trek and hanging out with Andrew.  As we're getting ready to close up the house for the night Reed says "how about a round of pool?" and I say "sure!".  Last time I played pool it was a disaster.  I almost pulled a Happy Gilmore on my pool stick thing (Happy Gilmore breaks golf clubs and such).

So we start playing and then Reed offers me a tip or two on how to aim and hit the balls.  When Reed gives advice, make sure you listen to him because he sure knows what he's talking about!   Well, I followed his advice and boom shaka laka!  I sink two balls in a row!  Reed was pretty excited but I was all jumping up and down happy.  Long story short, I managed to sink three balls in a row at one point and ended up....WiNnInG the game!!!!

And so, dear reader, the moral of the story is this; always follow Reed's advice!  You may end up unexpectedly winning pool games. ;-)

Camaros, Ferraris and Porsches Oh My!

So this week it was meant to be to go on a cool date with Reed.   No really!  It was meant to be!  As a stocking stuffer for Reed I was going to get a Groupon ticket to the LeMay Car Museum so that we could finally go together.  So I went to the museum's website and was looking around at their upcoming events page and voila!...they were having their very last free entry day the next day.  So I sent Reed an email invite changing our Saturday plans to Thursday and he quickly RSVP'd in the affirmative.

After I got off of work (super late) I rushed home.  We got ready and packed some snacks for the long drive since we knew we'd get stuck smack dab in the middle of Tacoma traffic.   We set off and the weather was really nice but the traffic was really horrible.

We got to the museum and had a blast looking around.  So many shiny, classic cars and shiny, fast cars and shiny, unique cars.  Harold LeMay loved to collect cars of any kind and now his museum has a rotating selection of those cars as well as cars from other collections making guest appearances. 

After the museum we headed to the closest Jack in the Box for our traditional chicken sandwiches.  We were about to go into the restaurant to sit and dine but as we parked we noticed a homeless bum hanging out by the door and a creepy looking couple eating each others faces in a corner by the window.  We quickly decided to go through the drive-thru.  haha

It was a really fun evening and one of the best parts was that neither of us had been to that place before so it was a new adventure for both of us.  Dating Reed is so much fun!  :-)

"You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why.

It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed
people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. CBS, Fox, NBS and more have plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

Christmas Tree and Cleaning Spree

The weekend of fun continued on past the Jingle Bell Run!  One of the main highlights....

Our Very First Christmas Tree!!!!

Next year our tree will be bigger by a lot but this year we are happy to have a tree.  Christmas just doesn't seem to be Christmas without a tree and Nativity set.  Now that we have both then it's definitely Christmas!  :-)

Reed had a great time cleaning his gun collection on Saturday.  I came home from gift shopping to find him sitting on the floor thoroughly enjoying his comedy show and surrounded by his armory. It's kind of funny....I went on a shopping spree and he went on a cleaning spree!  haha

And on Sunday we went to the Bahrtzoo to spend some time.  Daniel had gotten very sick so Reed and Daddy brought the three kids home so that Daniel could get some rest.  We had fun and were very tired by the time Megan came to fetch the kids.  After that was done I made the whole family dinner....which is a feat because it's my first time cooking for the whole family.  I made chicken tacos and they turned out good!  At least that's what everybody told me.  Quote of the evening was when Kandace saw me taking the picture and she was like "ooh, I better take off my shirt....I mean COAT!!!"  haha  Thankfully, she stayed fully clothed.  ;-)

I Won The Race! (Not really)

Today was the Jingle Bell Run hosted by Saint Martin's University.  It was super cold out (thank goodness the race started at 10:00 and not 7:00) and I was running it alone due to some unfortunate turns of events.   Thankfully my handsome husband came along with me to cheer for me and be my buddy.  Yay!  It was a lot of fun being in a big auditorium with Christmas decorations, Father Christmas, and Christmas music....great atmosphere!  Reed and I both appreciated the fact that everybody there is at least working towards fitness.  Being that I work with the sick people of the world it's nice to be surrounded by health. . :-)

During the race I felt like walking part of the way through but I was motivated by the fact that I didn't want Reed to see me walk any of it. haha  I ran the entire race with no walking breaks which is pretty awesome for me considering I tend to wimp out.  My race time ended up being 30:35 which is a smidge better than my last 5k but still slower than the 70 year old who came in at 28:55!!!!! 

After the race, Reed and I enjoyed bagels and bananas and lost at every raffle item.   It was a fun start to the Saturday....here are a few pics!

Today we celebrate two different anniversaries.....

December 5, 2011:  We got engaged!  

May 5, 2012:  We got married! 

Evolution of the Best Laid Plans

The 1st day of December was Reed's day to plan our weekly date.  He originally planned a pizza lunch date at Izzy's.  We both love pizza and Izzy's has a delicious array of specialty pizzas.  Well, it just so happened that the 1st day of December was my co-workers baby shower at Olive Garden.  Uh-oh!  Here's the story of how our date plans evolved....

I went to the baby shower and ordered a gigantic meal so that I could bring half of it home as a peace offering to my poor hubby who had to reconcile himself with pizza disappointment.  I arrived at our house with mass amounts of lasagna and breadsticks and found Reed languishing in sorrow.  (Well, okay, he wasn't really languishing but he was napping.  haha)

After we partook of the Olive Garden-y deliciousness we discussed the rest of our evening.  With a twinkle in his eye, Reed sorrowfully stated that he had the perfect date planned until I decided to go change things and not show up to our date.  With a twinkle in my eye, I begged his forgiveness and plead for a second chance at a date today!  We both laughed a lot and proceeded to make alternate plans.

So we hopped in the car and drove to Best Buy with the intent to buy a movie and watch it in the comfort of our own home.  We didn't really find anything at Best Buy so we headed to Target where we discovered a $5 movie called Planet 51. It has a star-studded cast and looked humorous.  However, it was risky because we hadn't heard or seen anything about it. The movie was actually really funny and cute with a premise that was unique.

On the way home I had asked Reed about his shotgun and so when we got home he showed me how to use it properly.  He is very knowledgeable about guns and gun safety which I definitely appreciate...one day the zombies will start taking over the world and we will be ready.  ;-) haha

 And that, dear reader, is how our date evolved from pizza at Izzy's to a movie night with shotgun education as a bonus round of fun.  Reed planned a great date!
