Unicorns

My Magical Unicorn Mascot
Unicorns are awesome. They are pink and/or white horses with a huge sparkly horn coming out of their foreheads.  If it were me that had a huge horn coming out of my face then I'd be a pretty grumpy panda.  But unicorns seem to be the happiest of creatures!  They're also magical.  My brother and his wife gave me a card one year...it was a picture of a unicorn leaping through a meadow with a rainbow streaming out of its derriere.  The caption was (for a birthday greeting) "I hope your day is more beautiful than a unicorn farting rainbows".  My most favoritest memory regarding these magical mythical rainbow tooting creatures is the day I was at work in the hospital.  I was finishing a really bad week at work and didn't want to be there.  So I'm taking care of this really nice fellow and his wife and daughter were at the bedside.  Halfway through his long day of recovery where I plumped his pillows, helped him eat, brought warm packs, provided ice packs, explained his recovery, told jokes and stories, brought pain pills, listened sympathetically, etc. the family came back from the gift shop and presented me with the cutest pinkest unicorn I have EVER seen!  They told me that they picked a unicorn because it's magical and I am "magical nurse".  Well by golly!  Unicorns are my favorite animal now!  That experience made my day and reaffirmed to me two things.

1.  Nursing was the best career choice I ever made.
2.  The world is a magical place.

Our House In the Middle of the Street

Sealing clearance update:  Nothing yet.  =P  Still waiting and anticipating!!!!

Guess what?!?!?  We got a house!!!!  Here's the scoop....and the picture included is a VERY rough floor plan of our house.  Yay!!!!

So our plan was to search for people in the Olympia stake who had above-garage apartments, mother-in-law apartments, etc. that would be willing to rent to us.  We like the thought of paying rent to someone we know and, hopefully, saving some money with said arrangement. Regular apartments these days are so flipping expensive!  So we emailed everybody and had no good results.  One possibility was 30 minutes away from everything...technically still in Olympia Stake but then again Hawaii is technically in the United States too.  haha  Anyway, so in a pre-temple interview with my bishop he mentioned that he'd like Reed and me to check out one of his investment properties.  Reed and I drove up the road that night and fell in love with it!

On Monday night we toured the apartment.  And we fell even MORE in love with it!!!  It's the second story of an old house that has been renovated to have the apartment upstairs and allow for a business downstairs.  Our downstairs neighbors will be a chiropractic group.  There are beautiful blossoming trees outside our windows.  We're on the third story so we've got a nice view of the surrounding area.  And we're three minutes away from the church and ten minutes away from my hospital and 30 seconds away from the grocery store.  There are a bajillion closets and crazy nooks and crannies. My favorite part was when Reed opened a closet door and looked in.  Then he goes "wait, WhAt?!?" and I go look.  The closet looks tiny but it spans the entire length of the bedroom wall.

So the plan is to have Reed move in on May 1st and then as soon as we get married then I will join him there.  That will give us time to get pretty settled in before the whole hullabaloo of our wedding day.  We cannot wait to have all of you over (probably not at the same time because the place isn't THAT big) and show you.  It's kind of weird in an awesome way to have our very first place together picked out.  The process is moving along and we feel truly blessed to have this wonderful opportunity.

Progress!!!

Wedding update:  No news as far as the sealing clearance.  Still waiting and praying for it to come soon.

Family update:  Our newest niece Erin Abigail Bahrt was born on March 2, 2012 to David and Heather.  Born two months premature and with multiple health problems, she spent two hours with her parents and went back to Heavenly Father.  She's a beautiful little girl with dark hair and big eyes.  We are so happy she's a member of our family!  Heather is recovering well from her c-section and they are spending some time resting and being with Laura and Emmalee. We are so thankful for the plan of salvation...we know that we'll be able to spend time with Erin and that because her parents were sealed in the temple that their whole family is bound together and only has this short period on earth to be apart.  We love you Erin!

As far as progress (as mentioned in the title)....we are taking more steps toward getting to the temple!  Our plan is to get all our 'ducks in a row' so that the second our clearance comes through we will be able to set a date and not have to worry about delays.  So on Tuesday I started the process of getting my temple recommend!  I was also invited to be part of the temple preparation class in my home ward.  Reed is going with me and I love having his support through the process.  We figure that making active progress towards the temple will be a good way to pass the time while we are waiting for clearance.

See you next week!

Flashback - Valentine's Day 2011

Flashback to Valentine's Day 2011 -

After Reed became available to the world again he asked me out on a date.  He told me that he wanted to ask me out and Valentine's Day was very soon.  He figured we would treat it like just another day and not worry about the Valentine's Day aspect of it.  All I wanted was to be on a date with the man of my dreams!  So I agreed and the anxious stomach issues started.  For the next few days I could hardly eat and all I could think about was our upcoming date.  We had agreed to dress nicely and then we would go to Fred Meyer and get pizza fixings.  The plan was to assemble the pizza and eat it together.

The day of the date I spent the afternoon doing my hair, getting beautimified and anxiously awaiting his arrival.  Finally at 5:00, Reed drove up in his big huge truck.  He came up to the door and gave me a huge hug.  The second I saw his smile then I wasn't nervous anymore...just so excited!!!!  We were finally on a date!

We drove to Fred Meyer (this was my first time seeing his big Dodge Ram 1500 truck named Samson) and walked around gathering pizza supplies.  Fred Meyer does not know how to arrange their shops and it took forever to find stuff.  It was so much fun though because we were together and finally on a date!  This was the first time we'd ever been alone together....previously we made sure that Kandace or a bunch of other people were around us at all times.  As we walked through the store he offered me his arm and I held on.

Back at the Tumwater House (the house owned by our branch president and rented by a few of the guys in the singles branch) we assembled the pizza.  I didn't usually cook and I was glad for the instructions on the back of the pizza crust.  While the pizza was cooking we set the table and cleaned the kitchen together.  We never stopped talking through the whole evening....we shared stories, told jokes, and just had fun.  The thing I noticed about this date was that it felt familiar.  It was our first date, I'd never had a pizza cooking date before, and nothing about it was something that had been done but it all felt perfect and like we were comfortable together.

As we ate our pizza we discovered that we had left the 'stay-fresh silicone packet' on the bottom of the pizza!  Something had to make our perfect pizza imperfect!  Fortunately we discovered our goof BEFORE we ate it.

After dinner and dishes we talked with our good friend TJ Northcraft (one of the guys that lived in the house at the time).  He's a nice guy who is a good friend and we were happy to see him.  Then Reed and I sat on the broken down green couch in the living room and picked a movie to watch.  The movie is an animated show called 'The Missing Lynx" and it looked like a Dreamworks style movie.  Well, we didn't watch a single minute of it!  We spent the whole time talking!  Reed has always been a very busy and adventurous man and his stories are like out of a movie.  He's also had a lot of life experiences that have helped him learn a lot about himself.  I've had some unique experiences in my life and I love to chatter.  So we filled up the rest of the evening with conversation.  When the movie was done we noticed that the closing credits were in spanish....so we rewound the movie to see if the whole movie had been in spanish.  That's how much we paid attention to the movie!  =)

Around 10:30 we headed to my house.  This was the first year that Rebekah, Kandace and I had all had Valentine's Day dates! (In past years somebody had always been left out) So we all sat around and shared the stories of our dates....then we got couples pictures. Around midnight Reed gave me a huge hug and went home.  I stayed awake for a few hours afterwards and thought about the night and how perfect it had been.  Oh how I hoped for many more dates with Reed!!!

Wedding Update

Here's the scoop on our wedding plans!

The sealing clearance application was finally submitted on Tuesday!  Now we wait.  The whole process took much longer than expected (we were hoping to have it submitted two months ago) but now our part is done.  The application is making the journey to Salt Lake City where the First Presidency is faced with making the decision to grant us clearance or not.  We've asked a lot of people with experience in sealing clearance's and we figure that it may take approximately two months to get the clearance back.  However that is only an estimate and we are settling in for the long haul...one couple we know of waited over a year for their clearance!  As soon as the sealing clearance comes through then we will pick a date, schedule it with the temple and then notify all our family members of the official date.  The wedding date will be a month after we get the official clearance.  So that will be one month for everyone to get their plans in order.

I have officially started the process of going to the temple for my endowments!  I had my first interview and my bishop is very happy that we will be working on this process while waiting for the clearance.  My endowment date will be as soon as possible although I will be consulting with the stake president to find the ideal date.  Personally I cannot wait to finally go through the temple!  It's one of those things that I've been preparing for my whole life and this is a very special thing for me.  And it feels even more special that I get to go through for the first time with my future husband! =)

My wedding dress is now in my possession!!!  I would post a picture but Reed has access to this blog so I can't do that.  haha  It's gorgeous though!  And it fits 100% perfectly.  Trying it on was nerve wracking because I was sure it would be a poor fit somewhere but apparently the China-man that sent it to me really knows his dresses.  You see, I bought the dress off of eBay without having tried it on first.  The original dress was quite expensive here in the states but then Mom found it for 1/8 of the price on eBay.  I figured I could take a risk with that small amount of money.  It paid off quite nicely!  So at this point all we need to do is get Reed his tie and we'll be set with our outfits.  Yay!

So, that's all we know right now.  It's difficult making any plans at all because we have no idea when we will be getting married.  People ask for estimates and are baffled when we don't even know the month.  However we are practicing patience and making the best of a sometimes frustrating situation.  Heavenly Father is watching out for us and we know that we will be learning and growing throughout this experience.  So be patient with us and we'll keep you updated as things happen.
